Image 2 Icon Converter is a simple image converter that lets you use any picture as an icon to customize shortcuts and documents.

Using Image 2 Icon Converter is quite simple: just select the images you want to convert, pick the size and select the color you want use as transparency mask. The program opens popular image formats (BMP, JPG, EMF, GIF and WMF) and can create icons in various sizes, from 16x16 to 256x256.

Image 2 Icon Converter also includes a very basic image editor (which only allows you to rotate or flip the image) and lets you select a specific color for transparency.

On the downside, Image 2 Icon Converter fails in several areas: it doesn’t let you edit the icon, it doesn’t preserve aspect ratio when converting images, and transparency didn’t seem to work. Oddly enough, the program only saves images to JPG – instead of ICO or PNG, which is what we expected from an icon converter.
